BACOLOD City – Twenty-nine new classrooms were put up in two schools in the city.
A four-story, 20-classroom building was built in the Emiliano Lizares National High School (ELNHS) in Barangay Granada, while a three-story, nine-classroom building was constructed at the Luis Hervias National High School (LHNHS) in Barangay Villamonte.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) turned them over to the Department of Education (DepEd) in separate ceremonies led by Mayor Evelio Leonardia and Rep. Greg Gasataya on Wednesday.
Funding for the construction came from DepEd.
The building at the ELNHS had a contracted cost of P33,755,998.85, while the one at the LHNHS, P14,970,114.64.
“We believe these facilities will provide our students with a more conducive climate for study,” Leonardia said, adding that he hopes these will also inspire the teachers to perform better.
DPWH Bacolod City District Engineering Office head Abraham Villareal and City Schools Division Superintendent Cynthia Demavivas were also present at the turnover.
For his part, Gasataya announced that more infrastructures will be constructed at the two schools this year.
Another school building that costs P51 million will be put up at the LHNHS, while a four-story building with a science laboratory and information and communication technology rooms, costing around P40 million, will be built at the ELNHS, he said./PN
