Bacolod girds for DILG assessment on road clearing

BACOLOD City – The Department of the Interior and Local Government’s 60-day deadline on road clearing operation has ended, the agency is now on the next phase, according to Mayor Evelio Leonardia.

Leonardia said that DILG will start deploying its validation team to check the road clearing compliance of the city’s 61 barangays. Their assessment will last until Saturday.

The mayor disclosed that a composite team from DILG-Iloilo will arrive here today to conduct either random or surprised inspections.

DILG will assess each barangays based on the following:

* Whether or not it has passed an ordinance establishing official terminals for public utility vehicles;

* Whether or not they have accomplished their target of clearing based on the declared obstructions;

* Whether or not they have cleared all major roads of all obstructions;

* Whether or not they have established strategies to relocate illegal vendors and clear major roads of major obstructions like makeshift basketball courts.

According to Leonardia, once the validation is complete, non-compliant LGUs will be summoned.

He said that 29 out of 61 barangays here are 100-percent compliant with DILG’s order for road clearing as of Oct. 27.

“But there were many barangays that are already 90 percent compliant,” he said.

Leonardia explained that there are some structures that were not yet demolished due to some legal reasons.

Meanwhile, Executive Assistant Butch Soliguen, cluster head on Barangay Affairs, said that Barangay 41 here has a zero demolition.

“This is because there were no existing roads in the barangay. The property is owned by a private company and they are doing an ongoing construction,” he added./PN
