BACOLOD City – The city government here will not issue a permit for a caravan if it is to be held at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) due to the ongoing road construction along the road near BCGC.
Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said this is to avoid hampering the traffic flow along Circumferential Road, particularly in front of the BCGC.
“We will not allow caravans or issue permits for caravans passing through the area of BCGC. The city government will instead allow them to hold their activities in the city’s public plaza,” he said.
Earlier, the Makabayan Coalition and Negros United Transport Coalition (NUTC) separately wrote a letter to Mayor Benitez asking for issuance of a permit for the holding of caravan for their whole day activities on February 11 and February 13, respectively.
Secretary-to-the-mayor Atty. Marty Go said the City Mayor’s Office (CMO) received the letters on Friday, February 7, adding that the groups intend to hold separate caravans that will pass through the aforementioned road.
Meanwhile, according to the Makabayan Coalition, they wrote a letter to the city mayor, requesting to allow them to conduct the election campaign activities today, the start of the campaign period for national candidates and party-lists for the May 12 midterm elections.
It said that their caravan will start at the Good Year on Alijis Road (from southern portion) and from Lacson Street in Barangay Mandalagan (northern area) going to the BCGC grounds where they will convene./PN
