BACOLOD City – The city government has approved an additional funding of P50 million for the completion of the Bacolod MassKara Coliseum.
The said budget will be sourced out from the unobligated balances-savings of debt servicing for years 2022 to 2024 under the 20 percent development fund.
Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said an additional budget is needed for more works, like the elevators and bleachers, among others.
He said that under his administration, the coliseum, located in Barangay Tangub, was redesigned in order to make it a coliseum-convention facility.
“We have redesigned the coliseum kay kon ibilin ta lang sa original design the coliseum will just cater sports and concerts,” Mayor Benitez said.
During a meeting on February 5, as per the variations approved by the City Development Council, additional installations include operable wall partitions (P16.8 million); movable and retractable seats/bleachers (P13.9 million); a VIP elevator (P4.9 million); and two sets of escalator and elevator (P15.9 million).
In 2019, the former city administration had allocated P800 million for the construction of the coliseum. The fund came from the P1.7-billion loan of the city government from the Development Bank of the Philippines./PN
