BACOLOD City – The City Health Office (CHO) is giving out free vaccines for pneumonia and flu today, Jan. 5.
The activity is open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Ayala Malls Capitol Central, said Jamaica Gail Isidto, health education and promotion officer of the CHO.
Dubbed “Handog Pasasalamat sa mga Pamilyang Bacolodnon,” 200 doses of the pneumonia vaccine for senior citizens are available.
Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs caused by fungi, bacteria, or viruses. Both viral and bacterial pneumonia are contagious. General symptoms include chest pain, fever, cough, and trouble breathing.
For the flu vaccination, anyone 18 years old and above can avail, including health care workers, pregnant women, adults with comorbidities, personnel providing frontline services, such as military personnel, and other healthy adults.
The vaccines were provided by the Department of Health.
“Considering the changes in our climate now, dasig kita magka trangkaso. As for pneumonia, it’s for the elderly due to their weakened immune systems,” Isidto claimed.
She added that barangay health centers in this city will also conduct the same activity based on the given schedules./PN
