BACOLOD City – IPM Construction and Development Corp. will still collect garbage all over the city and haul them to the sanitary landfill in Barangay Felisa until Feb. 28 next year.
The contractor will also still manage the sanitary landfill until the same date.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod approved two agreements – one on garbage collection, hauling and disposal, another on sanitary landfill management and operation – between the city government and IPM.
The agreements, both dated Dec. 3, 2018, indicated the extension of the contracts with the private company for two more months after its original contracts expire on Dec. 31, 2018.
The city government has yet to hold biddings for its garbage collection and sanitary landfill management services for next year.
Councilor Caesar Distrito, chairman of the committee on laws, ordinances and good government, noted that the city government’s annual budget for 2019 was approved only on Dec. 3.
There was not enough time to hold biddings, and this makes the extension of the contracts necessary, Distrito said.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia said the extension of the contracts as may be necessary – up to four months – is indicated in the original contracts.
Distrito confirmed that the government procurement law allows contract extensions up to four months./
