BACOLOD City – For the second time, the Bacolod City Public Library was recognized as one of the five best-performing public libraries in the Philippines.

City Librarian Greta Memoria received a Plaque of Distinction during the National Conference of Libraries at Apo View Hotel, Davao City.

“Innovative and relevant services” offered at the city library were factors in the award,

Memoria said.

One of such services is the digital literacy program, which involves providing basic computer training to senior citizens, out-of-school youth, vendors, among others who want to learn computer use, for free, she said.

Also cited during the ceremony on March 16 were Davao City Public Library, Urdaneta City Library, Cavite Provincial Library, and Villasis Municipal Library.

The first time the Bacolod City Public Library received such recognition was in 2009. Beyond Access Asia, National Library of the Philippines and Molave Development Foundation, Inc. gave the award this year./PN
