Bacolod identifies Bacolaodiat sites, drops Lacson St.

BACOLOD City – The city government identified two sites for the celebration of the 2023 Bacolaodiat Festival from Jan. 19 to 22.

The festivities will take place at the Upper East Avenue on Megaworld’s property and at the Bacolod City Government Center.

Bacolaodiat – coined from the words “Bacolod” and “Lao Diat” (a Chinese phrase for celebration) – is a celebration to welcome the Chinese New Year and is jointly held by the city government and the local Chinese community.

Since its inception in 2006, Lacson Street had been one of the festival sites, according to Councilor Jason Villarosa.

This won’t be the case  next year,  said Villarosa, due to traffic congestion concerns and complaints from business establishments along Lacson Street.

Meanwhile, the city government will open the Christmas Festival of Lights at the Bacolod public plaza and at the Bacolod City Government Center on Dec. 1 and 3, respectively.

The festival of lights will be spearheaded by STI-West Negros University./PN
