Bacolod inks additional housing projects

BACOLOD City – The local government here has entered into another agreement with the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) for additional housing units under this city’s “Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino” (4PH) program, locally known as Yuhum Residences.

Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said he signed an agreement of 6,000 units for Yuhum Residences in barangays Banago and Estefania.

The signing on Jan. 18 was held at the DHSUD Building, Kalayaan Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City, between Benitez and DSHUD Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar.

Last year, the city and the said housing authority agreed to establish 10,000 units for barangays Vista Alegre and 8.

Supposedly, the city will award the first set of housing units in Barangay Vista Alegre to 298 recipients last Dec. 20, 2023. But it was postponed, awaiting President Ferdinand Marcos’ attendance to grace the event. The Office of the President also insisted that four buildings be finished first.

Benitez said the awarding will be scheduled again on the second week of February, or around the anniversary of DSHUD.

Originally, 4PH was a national program by the DSHUD to address housing needs through constructing decent and affordable housing for Filipinos.

In this city, the awardees will include informal settler families earning the equivalent minimum monthly wage of P10,000 and qualified to take out long-term housing loans under the Pag-IBIG Fund.

They will benefit from the DHSUD subsidy and pay a reduced monthly amortization of P2,300 for 30 years, the mayor earlier said.

Each condo housing unit has an area of 24 square meters, priced at P1.02 million, or P50,000 per square meter for a four-story building./PN
