BACOLOD City – The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) has installed a community-based flood early warning system (CBFEWS) along the rivers and creeks in this city to closely monitor the water levels and rainfall.

Anna Pornan, head of the CDRRMO, said these include the Lupit River, Magsungay River, Mandalagan River, Sum-Ag River, Banago Creek, and Mambuloc Creek.

With flooding as one of the concerns in this city, Pornan said the flood early warning system can quickly notify residents and authorities of rising water levels, allowing for prompt and effective responses.

“This is part of a broader initiative to strengthen disaster preparedness and resilience in our city,” the CDRRMO chief added.

The CDRRMO encouraged all residents to stay informed and heed warnings issued through this system, particularly during the rainy season.

Aside from CBFEWS installation, the CDRRMO has been conducting declogging and clearing of drainages and creeks.

Additionally, the Bacolod Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO) has installed garbage trap in Mambulok Creek where an average of 15 to 20 sacks of garbage, mostly plastics, were collected by the clean and green team daily.

The BENRO also reminded the residents of barangays 2, 6, 8, 10, and 12 to dispose of garbage properly./PN
