BACOLOD City – To promote physical activity and community engagement through sports, the city government launched the Sustainable Sports Development Program, or the Palarong Panlungsod.
The event was led by Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez at the Bacolod City Government Center on April 26. Among the attendees were City Council members, barangays, clubs, and coaches.
“With 18 clustered barangays and 24 sports disciplines, we are gearing up for our participation in Batang Pinoy and Philippine National Games,” said Benitez.
Meanwhile, Bacolod City will host the Visayas leg of the 2024 Philippine ROTC (Reserve Officers’ Training Corps) Games slated on May 26 to June 1.
The event is composed of 14 sports disciplines and an estimated 5,000 to 6,000 athletes from different colleges and universities with ROTC program are expected to participate.
“Bacolod will surely be buzzing with sporting action and thrills,” the city mayor earlier said.
ROTC Games is a joint collaboration of the Commission on Higher Education(CHED), Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Department of National Defense (DND), and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
Themed “Husay ng ROTC, Husay ng Kabataan,” this year’s ROTC Games aims to provide participants with a memorable experience, enriched by the warmth and hospitality of Bacolodnons.
Among the featured events are aquatics/swimming, arnis, athletics, boxing, e-sports, sepak takraw, taekwondo, table tennis, volleyball, basketball, target shooting, chess, raiders competition, and Ms. ROTC./PN
