BACOLOD City – In the weeks leading up to Christmas and New Year celebrations, lechon sales are experiencing a notable increase here.

Despite concerns over hog cholera and African Swine Fever (ASF), consumer interest in this popular holiday dish remains strong, according to Velma Rose Gomez, proprietor of a lechonan in Barangay Singcang Airport.

Current lechon prices vary, starting from P6,500 and reaching up to P14,000 for the most premium selections.

Gomez also noted an uptick in advance bookings for Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve festivities. She anticipates that prices may rise in the coming days.

Addressing safety concerns regarding their lechon, Gomez assured customers of strict adherence to biosecurity protocols and the City Health Office’s regulations on food preparation.

The Provincial Veterinary Office of Negros Occidental supports her assurance, confirming no issues with hog supply, although hog prices are increasing.

Gomez disclosed that their hogs are sourced from the towns of Don Salvador Benedicto and Moises Padilla. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
