Bacolod logs dengue, leptos deaths in a week

BACOLOD City – The City Health Office (CHO) has recorded one dengue and two leptospirosis deaths from August 4 to 10.

Dr. Grace Tan, chief of the CHO’s Environment Sanitation Division, said the city now has three dengue deaths and a total of 602 cases recorded from January 1 to August 10 this year.

“The number of cases is 73.5 percent higher than the 347 cases and three deaths in the same period last year,” she added.

CHO data showed that Barangay Taculing has the highest number of cases at 77.

Other cases were from barangays Bata (32); Villamonte (43) ; Estefania and Mansilingan (37 each); Cabug and Granada with (33 each); Alijis (28); Mandalagan (27); Banago and Sum-ag

(25 each); Tangub (23); and Singcang (21).

Dr. Tan reminded the public anew to always practice the 4S strategy against dengue: search and destroy the mosquitos breeding places; seek early consultation; self-protect by wearing long sleeves or pants and using mosquito repellent; and support fogging and spraying in hotspot areas.

The CHO, meanwhile, clarified that despite of the increasing cases, there is no dengue outbreak in the city.

In the same period, this city has listed 15 leptospirosis cases and a total of six fatalities.

Here is the breakdown of the cases: barangays 35, Pahanocoy and Punta Taytay (two cases each); and and Alijis, Vista Alegre, Mansilingan, Mandalagan, Felisa, 6 , 12, Estefania, and 39 (one each)./PN
