Manila – Bacolod-Master Sardines fell short in the quarterfinals round of the 2020 Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 President’s Cup powered by TM at the INSPIRE Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna on Friday.
The team, led by Anton Asistio, Robin Rono, Alfred Batino, and Chris Lalata, went toe-to-toe with the Butuan City-Uling Roasters before suffering a thrilling 16-15 defeat.
Both teams were tied at 11-all with under two minutes left. Butuan City came up with conversions from Chris de Chavez and Karl Dehesa to move up 16-13 while Bacolod trimmed the deficit to one at the buzzer on a long shot by Rono.
Bacolod-Master Sardines barged into the quarterfinals round following a 21-10 domination over Bicol-Paxful 3×3 Pro in the qualifying round. Asistio top-scored with 10 points while Batino had six for Bacolod.
Bacolod-Master Sardines started its 3×3 campaign in the “Calambubble” with a runner-up finish in the pre-season tournament before their quarterfinals finish in the first and second leg.
The squad had a breakthrough campaign in the third leg where they ended up at third place before failure to reach the quarterfinals round during the fourth leg last Tuesday./PN
