BACOLOD City – Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez has formally requested the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to look into a fraudulent social media account impersonating him on Facebook.
The fake account, which lacked a verification checkmark, was identified as “Albee Benitez.”
Stressing the importance of authenticity in public service, Benitez emphasized the importance of ensuring that social media accounts are legitimate.
He urged social media users to be vigilant and verify the authenticity of accounts claiming to represent public figures.
“The public must be cautious. If you see a Facebook account without a verification check, it should immediately raise concerns about its legitimacy,” said Benitez.
The suspicious account has since been removed from Facebook, following its exposure as inauthentic.
The investigation by the NBI is expected to commence following the mayor’s request./PN
