BACOLOD City – The construction of this city’s official museum and auditorium will commence in 2019 and is expected to be completed in two years, according to Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri.
Zubiri, who grew up in Bacolod and whose father hailed from Kabankalan City, showed the perspective of the leaf-shaped, environment-friendly museum and auditorium in a press briefing late last month.
The Lichauco Guilas and Villanueva Architectural Firm was tasked to design the project with a floor area of about 5,000 square meters.
The museum’s fund, pegged at P163-million, will be obtained from the Department of Budget and Management’s (DBM) 2019 budget.
According to the City Public Information Office, the first two floors of the museum will feature winning MassKara masks and costumes since the Masskara Festival started.
An amphitheater will also be built, which will be dedicated for cultural events, concerts and conferences.
Meanwhile, City Mayor Evelio Leonardia conveyed his gratitude for the project and recognized the museum as a “dream come true.”
The mayor also called on stakeholders to discuss details on how to best operate and sustain the project. (PIA/PN)
