Bacolod newsman injured while covering event

BACOLOD City – A newsman working for a popular television channel here was injured. He was hit by a Public Utility Jeepney (PUJ) in front of the BAYS Center on San Juan Street here yesterday morning.

The 31-year-old Adrian Prietos was a reporter and news anchor of GMA-Bacolod.

He told Panay News he was covering the influx of people lining up to register at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office here.

While interviewing some individuals, a PUJ with a route of Bata-Libertad rushed in and its side mirror hit Prietos’ head.

Medics from the nearby Bacolod City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office outpost immediately responded.

Prietos underwent minor surgery on the head and had a CT-SCAN at the Riverside Medical Center in Bacolod City.

Police Staff Sergeant Gabriel Vasquez, traffic investigator of Police Station 1, identified the driver of the PUJ as 25-year-old Jesus Tagulabong, a resident of Purok Marapara in Barangay Bata.

According to Vasquez, Tagulabong only had a student driver’s permit, and even this was already expired.

Tagulabong could face charges for reckless imprudence resulting in physical injuries but Prieto decided not to file a complaint.

Prieto also called he attention of Comelec-Bacolod and the city government to transfer the voters’ registration queue at the back of the BAYS Center as to avoid similar incidents from happening again./PN
