Bacolod opens barangay vaccination centers

BACOLOD City – Several barangays here will start vaccinating against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) the remaining priority populations with jabs from British-Swedish pharmaceutical firm AstraZeneca. The rollout will commence today.

About 20,000 doses were recently delivered to this city, according to Dr. Chris Sorongon, deputy for medical data and analysis of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) here.

Everything’s all set, Sorongon said, noting that the barangays previously underwent vaccination simulation exercises in preparation for the arrival of the COVID-19 vaccines.

However, Sorongon clarified that the city will only accommodate the remaining frontline healthcare workers (A1), senior citizens (A2) and persons with comorbidities (A3) who have yet to receive their anti-coronavirus shots.

But only those who have pre-registered online or through the barangays will be accommodated, Sorongon stressed.

After registration, a resident will receive a text or call, confirming their schedule of inoculation, he added.

According to Sorongon, here’s the specific schedule that would be observed in barangay vaccination centers:

* Villamonte – May 14 and 17

* Montevista – May 18 and 19

* Handumanan – May 20 and 21

* Mansilingan – May 14, 17, 18, 20, 21

Aside from these barangays, there’s also an ongoing vaccination at the SM City and Ayala malls here.

Sorongon advised senior citizens and persons with comorbidities to bring with them their senior citizen identification cards and medical certificates to attest the validity of their category.

As of this writing, the city already inoculated about 14,000 Bacolodnons with either the China-made Sinovac or AstraZeneca vaccines./PN
