BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) passed a resolution enjoining pedestrians in this city to strictly observe traffic rules and regulations.

This comes after several road accidents recorded in the city; the most recent of which involved three women in Barangay Pahanocoy. One of them died after a pickup truck hit them.

The SP urged pedestrians to always obey traffic rules and only cross on designated pedestrian crossings or intersections.

It further advised pedestrians to exercise extreme caution when walking in areas with inadequate lighting or heavy vehicle traffic.

“The pedestrians’ safety is a top priority in our city,” said Councilor Em Ang who authored the resolution.

She added: Recent road accidents involving pedestrians have become a major concern, thus it is essential to promote road safety awareness and education among pedestrians.”

Moreover, the SP ordered the city’s traffic enforcement agencies to intensify their efforts in enforcing traffic rules and regulations related to pedestrian safety.

It likewise directed the city’s public information office to launch a public awareness campaign to promote road safety and responsible pedestrian behavior./PN
