Bacolod plaza guards vs sex workers mulled

BACOLOD City – The General Services Office (GSO) plans to assign 18 guards to keep commercial sex workers off the public plaza.

The guards, who are job order casuals, will make rounds 24/7 on shifting basis, according to GSO head Jerome Solinap.

Four guards may be deployed for duty during the day, seven at night and another seven at dawn, Solinap suggested.

City Administrator John Orola will have to approve this plan, said Solinap.

Earlier Orola ordered the GSO to rid the public plaza of commercial sex workers.

If Orola were to be believed, commercial sex workers loitering at the public plaza are a safety risk to strollers.

Some of them are involved in theft, the city administrator learned.

He stressed that the GSO and the Bacolod City Police Office must “maintain peace and order” at the park by addressing the problem.

Solinap said the pimp of the sex workers promised the local government that they won’t stay at the plaza anymore.

Now the plaza is free from commercial sex workers but this must be sustained; hence, the plan, said the GSO head.

“We will continue to be vigilant,” Orola had said. “[The local government] will stop them (commercial sex workers) from loitering not only at the public plaza but in other areas of Bacolod as well.”/PN
