Bacolod plaza up for renovation

BACOLOD City – The Bacolod City public plaza will undergo renovation, including the comfort rooms (CRs) there.

This was confirmed by City Administrator Lucille Gelvolea after she received complaints of the damaged doors of all cubicles at the women’s CR.

She said she will call the attention of the city’s General Services Office (GSO) regarding the problem.

The P300 million proposed fund for the renovation of the public plaza and Bacolod City Government Center grounds had received a green light from the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), an attached agency of the Department of Tourism (DOT).

Gelvolea said TIEZA is only waiting for the “no objection” reply of the Diocese of Bacolod to the project.

The Rizal Street portion of the public plaza across the San Sebastian Cathedral belongs to the Diocese of Bacolod under a usufruct agreement.

Early this year, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez had met with Bishop Patricio Buzon of the Diocese of Bacolod City to present the city’s plans to renovate the plaza./PN
