Bacolod police conduct antidrug drive in schools

BACOLOD City – The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) is conducting a series of drug awareness and prevention symposiums in public and private schools in the city.

The conduct of these symposiums is part of BCPO’s observance of the Police Community Relations Month this July.

Chief Inspector Sherlock Gabana, BCPO public information officer, said they hold lectures for college, high school and elementary students.

Gabana, who is also officer-in-charge of the BCPO Police Community Relations Unit, said they target to cover all schools in the city.

“This is one way for us to raise drug awareness among students and also provide them with crime prevention tips. They would then know how to identify those who are engaged in illegal drugs,” he added.

The BCPO has recorded drug cases involving college and high students, Gabana said.

“If you think about it, it is alarming. It should be the schools that should first tell the students not to get involved in illegal drugs,” he stressed.

The schools “have the obligation to help in steering away the students from vices,” Gabana added.

Last Wednesday, a drug awareness lecture was conducted at the Visayan Maritime Academy Global College in Barangay Sum-ag where about 600 freshmen students attended. (With a report from PNA/PN)
