BACOLOD City – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in this capital city is recruiting “computer-literate” youths to serve as part of its technical support staff in the conduct of the midterm elections on May 13.
City Election Officer Mavil Sia said the technical support staff will help in operating the precinct count optical scan (PCOS) machines.
“This election, we have enough teachers to serve. Our problem now is the hiring of the technical support staff,” added Sia. “Amo na sila ang mga poll workers that we need to help us in relation sa operation sang PCOS machines.”
Sia said interested youths can apply at their office along San Juan Street beside the BAYS Center.
Comelec-Bacolod needs about a hundred members of the technical support staff to fill in 350 clustered precincts in the city.
Qualified applicants will receive a P6,000 honorarium, Sia said.
The election period will begin Jan. 13. In Bacolod, there will be a Unity Walk to be joined by candidates and other stakeholders like the Bacolod City Police Office.
Philippine National Police chief Director General Oscar Albayalde said the gun ban will take effect from Jan. 13 to June 12.
While the ban is in effect, licenses to carry and transport firearms, explosives and ammunition are suspended.
Only personnel of law enforcement agencies – the PNP, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine Coast Guard, and National Bureau of Investigation – are exempted from the gun ban./PN
