BACOLOD City – Vendors in this city were given seven days to leave the sidewalks beginning yesterday.
Jonah Abao, market supervisor of the Vendors’ Plaza, said some of these vendors at the downtown area still failed to remove their illegal structures.
“The city government already called on these vendors to utilize vacant stalls at the Vendors’ Plaza near the Manokan Country,” he added.
The affected vendors are from areas along Araneta, Gonzaga, Gatuslao, Luzuriaga, San Juan, and Bonifacio streets.
“At least 380 qualified sidewalk vendors were already relocated last week at the Vendors’ Plaza,” Abao said.
He, however, admitted that several vendors, who were part of the first batch of relocatees, complained for lack of water and comfort rooms.
“Several vendors are complaining that they have no sales because there are no customers coming in,” Abao said. “We understand their toil. The city is doing its best to bring the consumers in the area by establishing a terminal there.”
He added that the city government allotted a P25-million rehabilitation fund to improve the Vendor’s Plaza.
Last week, mayor Evelio Leonardia had
ordered the seven-day ultimatum to vendors occupying the metro’s sidewalks.
Leonardia said no one is exempted from President Duterte’s directive to
clear all roads of all sorts of obstruction./PN
