MANILA – Bacolod Master Sardines continues to fill up its arsenal ahead of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Mumbaki Cup by signing new additions, which includes former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) guard John Casiño.
The 5-foot-10 Casiño decided to take his talents to the city after spending his two years in the PBA as a reserve player for Rain or Shine Elasto Painters and Talk ‘N Text KaTropa.
The Master Sardines also signed Bacolodnon guard Jeramer Cabanag, who was drafted by NLEX Road Warriors in the latest PBA Rookie Draft but was not given a contract, and big man Sandy Cenal.
Bacolod earlier acquired the services of former Columbian Dyip guard Cyrus Tabi, Jason Strait and Jeff Comia.
Cebuano Mark Tallo also returned to the team after playing for Manila in the latter part of the MPBL Lakan Cup.
The team is also in negotiations with Bacolodnon guard Pao Javelona for a contract extension and also renewed the allegiances of forwards Simon Camacho and Jeff Javillonar.
Head coach Vic Ycasiano said that he is confident the Master Sardines will make a dent next season, especially after an 11-19 record in the Lakan Cup deprived them the opportunity to play in the South Division playoffs.
“This team’s all about defense, or our offense will be our defense,” Ycasiano said. “This will be a run and gun squad just like my team in STI. It’s basically the same. Yun ang itatakbo ko. It’s a young team that would excite MPBL fans.”
“This will be a totally different Bacolod team. The main thing is we’re eyeing for the playoffs next season. From there, we’ll see,” he added./PN
