BACOLOD City – A portion of the runway of the Bacolod-Silay Airport will be closed for a few hours this morning Friday, Nov. 9 to give way to a “full-scale emergency exercises.”
The closure will be from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, an advisory from the Media and Communications Office of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines showed.
A Notice to Airmen indicated that Runway 03/21 will be affected by the closure.
The exercise is part of the gateway’s compliance with its Aerodrome Certification, according to the CAAP.
The CAAP requested passengers who will be likely affected to contact their respective airlines regarding their flight schedules.
For his part, Mayor Neil Lizares of Talisay City, Negros Occidental on Thursday advised residents not to be alarmed when they see emergency vehicles exiting their base at the old municipal hall compound at their public plaza.
They will be part of the drills aimed at further enhancing response capabilities should a real airport emergency take place, Lizares said.
The Talisay City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office is one of the designated first responders during an emergency at the airport, the mayor noted./PN
