BACOLOD City – Lone district Rep. Greg Gasataya already filed 10 bills ahead of the 18th Congress opening later this month.

Gasataya, who took his oath before Senate Majority Floor Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri last week, said he is more driven, more inspired and more than ready to be the instrument of progress for his second term.

“This is a rare opportunity. I am just here because you chose me to represent you. I will make the most out of it to create a legacy of genuine, honest, responsive, and sincere public service,” the lawmaker said.

Gasataya’s proposed measures filed before Congress include House Bill (HB) 566, which seeks to create the first and second legislative districts in the city by apportioning the lone legislative district of Bacolod.

He also filed HB 570 to establish the Bacolod City District Hospital; HB 567, to create the Bacolod City Ports Authority; HB 571 to establish the Commission on Higher Education office; and HB 575, to establish a Professional Regulation Commission office in the capital city.

Gasataya also filed HB 572, which seeks to create two additional branches of the municipal trial court in cities in Bacolod, amending Section 29 of Batas Pambansa Bilang 129, otherwise known as the Judiciary Reorganization Act of 1980.

Other bills filed by the Bacolod lawmaker include HB 568, which seeks to grant scholarships to persons with disability (PWDs) and their children and appropriate funds; and HB 569 (Adjusted Class Hours Act of 2019), to regulate the start of class hours in public and private educational institutions in the Philippines.

Included as well are HB 573 (Universities and Colleges Mental Health Act of 2019), to recruit, hire and train additional university-based mental health personnel; and HB 574 (Single-use Plastic Product Regulation Act of 2019), to regulate the manufacturing, importation, and use of single-use plastic products and providing penalties, levies, and an incentives system for industries, business enterprises, and consumers. (With a report from PNA/PN)
