Bacolod SP invites BTAO head to clarify ‘ordinance discrepancies’

BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) Committee on Transportation has invited Police Major Junji Liba, head of the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO), to a conference to clarify the alleged discrepancy of the traffic ordinances in this city.

“The SP, which is bigger than any of the councilors and is an institution in the city, has approved a resolution unanimously to call for a committee conference to clarify what he [Liba] meant,” SP Committee on Transportation chair Councilor Al Victor Espino said.

In a radio interview, Liba said the city was “kulang-kulang ang mga ordinansa,” particularly on overloading and penalties for violators.

Espino responded in a separate media interview: “Depende lang ina sa pag-interpret sang nagabasa sang ordinansa.”

The SP resolution inviting Liba to the committee conference was passed last week.

The SP wanted Liba to identify which traffic rules and regulations have discrepancies so, Espino said, the city council could take action on them.

However, there is no scheduled date for the conference. It will depend on Liba’s reply to the invitation of the committee./PN
