BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod here is mulling the establishment of a power plant in Barangay Felisa.
“This is in preparation for the surge of energy demand in the future and to help the city sustain its momentum of economic growth,” said Councilor Dindo Ramos.
Ramos recently introduced an ordinance enjoining the Central Negros Electric Cooperative to conduct a feasibility study for the construction of a power plant.
According to Ramos, this capital city is one of the fastest-growing highly urbanized cities in the country, hence it is crucial to address its future energy needs now and to look into innovative and conventional sources of energy such as renewable energy and conventional fuels.
He explained that energy sector plays a very important role in our modern living, where electricity is an indispensable commodity as it energizes our homes, businesses and industries that boost our country’s economic growth and development.
Ramos said the Department of Energy projects the city’s electricity demand to grow around five percent annually thus it is imperative that we should set-up measures to ensure that this requirement is met including allowance for reserve./PN
