BACOLOD City – The members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) here passed a resolution urging the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) to deploy traffic enforcers along the Lacson-Circumferential flyover in Barangay Bata here to prevent pedestrians from jaywalking.
Authored by city councilor Claudio Jesus Puentevella, the resolution cited that aside from deploying the traffic enforcers, the BTAO should also install road signage, safety devices and barriers.
Puentevella said he filed the resolution due to the numerous fatal road accidents involving
pedestrians and motorists that have occurred along the Lacson-Circumferential flyover.
He stated that the deployment of traffic enforcers will ensure the enforcement of traffic laws and the prevention of accidents in the area.
The local government code of 1991 provides that the local government units shall exercise the
powers expressly granted, those necessarily implied therefrom, as well as powers necessary,
appropriate, or incidental for its efficient and effective governance, and those which are essential to the promotion of the general welfare./PN
