BACOLOD City – The removal of “spaghetti” wires” here could take at least four months.
Over the weekend, the removal started along San Juan Street in the city’s downtown area.
Spaghetti wires refer to unsightly electrical and telecommunication wires that are abandoned, damaged and no longer being used. They are messy, entangled and disorganized.
First to be removed were the wires in front of a hotel. According to Councilor Al Victor Espino, the wires were previously hit by passing motorists.
The wires were now lying too low and if not acted upon, could be hit again by passing vehicles and could cause more serious damage in the area.
According to Espino, it could take at least 130 to 140 working days to clear he spaghetti wires in public areas and subdivisions.
Work on the messy wires would be non-stop. The city government targets to remove at least 500 linear meters every day.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) would come up with a legislation institutionalizing the clearing of spaghetti wires to eliminate any future problems.
Mayor Alfredo “Albee” Benitez also witnessed last Saturday’s removal.
The removal of spaghetti wires also got a “thumbs up” from nearby establishments, claiming they complained about the wires in the past but no action had been taken.
The present removal along San Juan Street is also being seen by the public as part of the ongoing preparations for the MassKara Festival in October./PN
