BACOLOD City – To highlight women’s significant contributions in nation-building, the City Council joins the Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) in the city’s observance of the International Women’s Day on March 8, with theme #Balanceforbetter.
The resolution authored by Councilor Cindy Rojas was approved at the Sangguniang Panlungsod on Wednesday, Feb. 27.
Filipino women have been active in the struggle for national independence, for civil liberties, for equality of the sexes, and for human rights, said Roxas.
“Women are considered to be more vulnerable to abuse,” she added
Roxas said President Corazon Aquino on March 1, 1988 issued Proclamation No. 224, which declared the first week of March 8, 1988 and every year thereafter as Women’s Rights and International Peace Day.
