BACOLOD City – The city surpassed its rabies vaccination target for 2017, according to the City Veterinary Office (CVO).
The CVO has vaccinated 47,557 dogs and cats out of their 54,000 population, records showed. It has also served 25,621 clients (pet owners) in 61 barangays.
“This means the vaccination performance of the city is 88.10 percent, which is higher than the 70 percent national target,” said City Veterinarian Ma. Agueda Dela Torre.
This year the city’s rabies vaccination drive already covered 11,721 dogs and cats, and 6,178 clients from January to March 14, latest CVO records showed.
During that period the CVO has reached barangays Taculing, Singcang-Airport, Tangub, Pahanocoy, and Sum- ag.
It will soon head to barangays Cabug, Alijis, Mansilingan, and Handumanan. Other barangays will follow, the CVO said.
“Ang purpose naton (for the vaccination) is only to reduce the risk of infection,” Dela Torre clarified.
“Pero kon nabakunahan sila kag may contact sila sa may rabies nga animals, may posibilidad gihapon nga magka-rabies sila,” she said./PN
