Bacolod targets to vaccinate 80K dogs, cats

BACOLOD City – The City Veterinary Office (CVO) targets to immunize about 80,000 dogs and cats in this city to protect them from life-threatening diseases such as rabies.

The city government has allotted P4 million for the procurement of vaccines.

Data from the CVO showed that from January 1 to present, about 8,000 dogs and cats were vaccinated.

Dr. John Michael Cabuguason, assistant city veterinarian, said the initial vaccination as part of their anti-rabies campaign was carried out in Barangay Mansilingan.

He hopes that before June this year they can resume the vaccination in the barangays.

Cabuguason also said the city will hold its first-ever Pet Festival from March 29 to April 6 and there will be a four-day mass vaccination from March 31 to April 3 in barangays 1 to 7.

The CVO encouraged pet lovers to bring their dogs and cats to Ayala Malls Capitol Central for registration during the city’s launch of the pet registration.

Cabuguason said they will issue identification cards (IDs) for registered pets with quick response (QR) codes for easy identification of pets in case of loss and access of pet details.

Meanwhile, as the dry season officially started, the assistant city veterinarian advised pet owners to take care of their pets because they are prone to heat stroke.

“They have to make sure that their pets stay under the roof and properly hydrated. In case there will be a health problem, immediately consult a veterinarian,” he added./PN
