Bacolod Tay Tung heads to semis of Rebisco regional volley league

BACOLOD Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts went straight to the semifinals of the Rebisco Volleyball League 18-under Regional Finals after sweeping its group matches on Saturday at the University of St. La Salle Gym in Bacolod City.

Katherine Shaine Cortez fired numerous service aces as the defending champions Thunderbolts hacked out a 25-1, 25-10 victory over the Colegio San Nicholas de Tolentino-Recoletos.

Prior to that, the Thunderbolts were also victorious after it defeated Iloilo Doctor’s College, 25-15, 25-13, before walloping the University of St. La Salle Team B, 25-5, 25-6.

“Despite our wins, the coaches keep on reminding the players to not be carried away as the games are expected to be tougher when we go to the playoffs,” said Thunderbolts assistant coach Biboy Calamba.

The Thunderbolts are scheduled to play their semifinals match on Sunday afternoon against the winner of the playoff between La Paz National High School and Supang National High School.

The other semifinals pairings features Central Philippine University Golden Lions and Trinity Christian School. The do-or-die championship match is slated on late Sunday evening.

The champion school in the Western Visayas Regional Finals will earn the right to represent the region in the Rebisco Volleyball League 18-under in Manila later this year./PN
