BACOLOD City – The 15-and-under and 17-and-under teams of Bacolod Tay Tung High School and University of St. La Salle have clinched semifinals seats in the United Negros Basketball League 2nd Chairman’s Cup after besting their quarterfinals foes.
Bacolod Tay Tung’s 17-and-Under team punched a semis seat following a 62-53 victory over El Tzino/Negros Plastic Mfg. & Mktg/Trinity in the round-of-eight match held at the Msgr. John Liu Activity Center here.
Adrian Alagaban top-scored with 14 points, Justine Jalea added 13 markers, Ronn Bedonia ended with seven markers, while Alfred Ysulan, Joachim Chuatico, Vince Hugo and Dy Wayne Jadoc supplied six pts apiece for Tay Tung.
Alexander Dingcong, meanwhile, led the losing Trinity with 16 points, Andrei Lance Mallen added 15 markers, with 10 coming in the third quarter, while Nasser Deguerra ended with nine points.
University of St. La Salle also entered the 17-and-under category semifinals following a 48-39 triumph over Caduhaan National High School in a low scoring and tightly-contested quarterfinals game.
Jan Apoyon and Robert Guinanao led the way for USLS with eight points apiece, Dominic Salem chipped in seven markers, while Emmanuel Salvio contributed six points in the victory.
In the 15-and-under category quarterfinals, Bacolod Tay Tung High School clinched one of the semifinals seats after scoring a 68-47 domination over Colegio de San Agustin-Bacolod.
Francis Lamasan and Kyle Pimentel spearheaded the attack for Bacolod Tay Tung with 19 and 15 markers, respectively, while Jordan Taronas and Seth Guarino added nine points each.
USLS’ 15-and-under squad also made its way to the semifinals round following a 76-46 rout of St. John’s Institute-Bacolod. John Paul Cabayao tallied 16 points, while Gian Alexis Vasquez added 14 markers.
Semifinals is slated this Saturday with USLS vs Team Kenn (15-and-under) at 12:30 pm, Bacolod Tay Tung vs Talisay Sharks (15-and-under) at 2 pm, USLS vs Notre Dame (17-and-under) at 3:30 pm., and Tay Tung vs CSA-Bacolod (17-and-under) at 5 pm. The two division’s finals are scheduled on Sunday./PN
