MANILA – Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts has secured commitments of two volleyball standouts from Bacolod City.

Thunderbolts assistant coach Roberto Calamba Jr. confirmed the transfer of opposite spiker Ysabelle Chua from St. John’s Institute and open spiker Alex Montoro from Trinity Christian School.

“These two were great additions to our secondary girls team especially some of our key players have already graduated,” Calamba told Panay News. “They were excellent players since they quickly adapt our system and are very coachable.”

The 15-year-old Chua admitted that it was a tough decision for her to relocate to the Thunderbolts, but have put into consideration the future of her volleyball career.

“There were many factors that made me decide to transfer to Tay Tung,” Chua said. “My parents were a big influence in my decision as they believe that Tay Tung offers one of the best educations and has a solid volleyball program.”

“Moving to Bacolod Tay Tung is like hitting two birds in one stone,” she added. “I am looking forward to further hone my volleyball skills and build camaraderie among my teammates so that I can earn their trust as a newbie.”

Fifteen-year-old Montoro, on the other hand, said leaving Trinity Christian School for Bacolod Tay Tung was not easy but she was looking to improve her overall volleyball ability with the Thunderbolts.

“It was not an easy decision for me to leave Trinity because I am leaving teammates and friends but I saw it as a great opportunity to improve as a player with Bacolod Tay Tung,” Montoro said.

“For me, Bacolod Tay Tung has a good quality of education. Also, their volleyball program is efficient that I can see them helping me in improving and developing my skills,” she added.

The Thunderbolts were decimated with the graduation of Joan Marie Monares, now with University of the Philippines, as well as incoming Enderun College players Erika Deloria, Rhean Almendralejo and Shane Carmona./PN
