MANDAUE CITY, Cebu – Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts-NOPSSCEA clinched the women’s volleyball crown of the Cebu-Bacolod Goodwill Games at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu here yesterday.
The Thunderbolts leaned on the exploits of Alyssa Bertolano, Shane Carmona and Joan Marie Monares to defeat University of San Jose-Recoletos’ (USJR) collegiate team in the finals, 25-13, 25-16, 25-13.
Tay Tung’s assistant coach Biboy Calamba said that their unbeaten run in the two-day tournament showed positive signs with less than a month left before the 2020 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet.
“Slowly but surely, the girls are getting the rhythm but there are still more adjustments to be made,” Calamba said. “There are still three weeks to go before WVRAA Meet so we can still iron that kinks.”
Rhean Hebraica Almendralejo, Kiesha Dazzie Bedonia, Gwen Bañas, Katherine Shaine Cortez, Julianne Monares, Nicolei Galvan, Aurea Alvero, Alijah Ysulan, Myrtle Escanlar and Julianah Severino were also part of the number one team.
Prior to the finals win, the Thunderbolts swept their four elimination round games against Ateneo de Cebu-B, University of San Carlos, Ateneo de Cebu-A and USJR./PN
