Bacolod Tay Tung retains JGM U-17 girls volley title

MANILA – Bacolod Tay Tung High School-A emerged as champion in the JGM Finance Corp. 17-under Girls Invitational Volleyball after a 25-22 25-12 25-14 win over California Academy of Antipolo City at the Bacolod Tay Tung Gym.

Alyssa Bertolano stood tall for the BTTHS-A on Saturday. She was named as Most Valuable Player and Best Opposite Spiker, while Joan Marie Monares was hailed as 1st Middle Blocker.

Also getting cited for BTTHS-A were Gwen Bañas as Best Libero, Shane Carmona as 2nd Best Open Spiker, Kiesha Bedonia as Best Scorer and Katherine Cortez as Best Setter.

On the side of California Academy, Dr. Obet Vidal was named Best Coach, Jelaica Gajero as 1st Best Open Spiker, Blesie Abitria as 2nd Best Middle Blocker, and Shaina Nitura as Best Receiver.

On their way to the championship round, the BTTHS-A dominated the Bacolod Tay Tung High School-B, while the California Academy bested La Carlota in the other semifinals series.

“This tournament is a huge help for us because we will be competing with this lineup in the 2019 National PRISAA next week,” said BTTHS-A assistant coach Biboy Calamba. “At least we were able to define what needs to be fixed for us.”

BTTHS-B, behind the impressive showing of Ana Hermosura, was able to salvage a bronze medal finish after a 25-17 17-25 25-18 victory over the La Carlota team./PN
