SILAY City – Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts added another championship to its collection. It ruled the 1st VANI Developmental Volleyball League 14-Under Girls here.

The Thunderbolts clinched the championship by defeating Talisay City, 25-16, 22-25, 25-9, 25-17, in the one-game finale on Thursday at the Natalio G. Velez Sports and Cultural Center.

The Thunderbolts showed its dominance over Talisay City early behind Jan Rose Bulak, Kimberly Rubin, Czarina Dosayla and Cheska Rizelle Peñol as they cruised to a lopsided first set victory.

Talisay City, however, pulled a close one in the second set but the Ralph Savellano-mentored Thunderbolts charged back with one-sided set victories in the third and fourth set.

Bulak was later hailed as the tournament MVP and Best Setter, Dosayla was named as 1st Best Outside Hitter, Rubin as 2nd Best Outside Hitter, Peñol as Best Opposite Hitter, Lana Madrigal as 2nd Best Middle Blocker and Caitlyn Espinosa as Best Libero.

Also part of the Thunderbolts’ 14-Under team were Briana Ang, Ana Ysabelle Hermosura, Janiya Lagulao, Mary Bontia, Edz Karylle Escultura, Alexa Bertolano and Rhose Viane Almendralejo.

Bacolod Tay Tung 14-Under first swept their Group B matches against St. John’s Institute-A, Talisay City, 1Silay Sports-A and University of St. La Salle-Bacolod Integrated School.

In the semifinals round, Bacolod Tay Tung High School defeated Trinity Christian School 14-Under team, while Talisay City prevailed over 1Silay Sports-B in the other Final Four game.

It was the second championship of the Savellano-handled Bacolod Tay Tung 14-Under team after also ruling the San Carlos City Invitational Age-Group Volleyball Festival girls division last month.

“Overall, the performance of the Bacolod Tay Tung 14-Under team was good even if the players were still adjusting to the system of coach Ralph,” said team manager Jose Montalbo./PN
