BACOLOD City – JGM Dreams Foundation-Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts is yet to be defeated in the start of the NVF Age Group Volleyball tournament over the weekend here.

Bacolod Tay-Tung nailed its second straight win in the 17-and-under category after a 25-21, 21-25, 25-23 escape over the Trinity Christian School afternoon of March 1.

Although a nerve-wracking showdown for the youthful Thunderbolts, setter Katherine Shaine Cortez stepped up to be the steady force for the team. She converted numerous service aces.

“It was a total team effort,” said middle blocker Aurea Alvero. “Every single player did their contributions and collectively, we were able to take the win against a tough opponent.”

On Feb. 29, the Thunderbolts’ 17-and-under squad cruised to a straight set victory over the University of St. La Salle Stingers. It was Jermaine Joniega and Cortez who played key roles on offense.

The Thunderbolts also scored a double victory in the 15-and-under category via a sweep over E.B. Magalona on Saturday afternoon, followed by a three-setter triumph over Trinity Christian School./PN
