BACOLOD City – Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts’ secondary and elementary girls volleyball team emerged as champions in the Bacolod City Division Meet 2025 held at the Montalbo Gym here.
Led by Most Valuable Player and Best Open Hitter Rhose Vianne Almendralejo, the Thunderbolts (Unit 5) cruised to a 25-10, 25-10, 25-11 straight set victory over Medalla (Unit 4) in the secondary girls finals.
Czarina Dosayla as Best Open Hitter and Best Server, Camila Amor Bartolome and Brianna Ang were named Best Middle Blockers, Alexa Bertolano as Best Opposite Hitter, Rhea Tomas as Best Libero, and Jan Rose Bulak as Best Setter.
Also part of the Thunderbolts squad are Joenil Anne Ramos, Ana Hermosura, Abigael Labajo, Caitlyn Espinosa, and Edz Karylle Escultura. Serving as head coach is Ian Macariola and Jose Montalbo as team manager.
“It’s a huge feat for us because it is just the first time that Bacolod Tay Tung has swept the individual awards in the secondary girls volleyball division,” Montalbo told Panay News.
Meanwhile, Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts’ elementary girls volleyball team also ruled their division with a 25-6, 25-19 domination over RAMMES in the championship match.
Mari Cacho was later named MVP and 2nd Best Middle Blocker, while teammates Mhegan Ordaniel (Best Open Hitter and Best Server), Samantha Valenciano (1st Best Middle Blocker), Chloe Depalubos (Best Opposite Hitter), Chinnie Millama (Best Setter), and Cielo Palabrica (Best Libero) also received citations.
“Of course, I am proud of their performance, all the hard work we are doing everyday in training has come out in this tournament,” Thunderbolts head coach Roberto Calamba Jr. said. “Hopefully, we can continue this until we reach the Palarong Pambansa.”
In the elimination round, the Tay Tung elementary prevailed over Felisa Elementary School, Abkasa Elementary School, and RAMMES before they topped the Apolinario Mabini Elementary School in the semifinals.
The Bacolod Tay Tung secondary and elementary girls volleyball teams will next compete in the Provincial Meet scheduled from January 29 to February 2./PN
