BACOLOD City – In preparation for the Election Day on May 9 and the proposed opening of the schools for the face-to-face classes, Bacolod city will close the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) quarantine school facilities.
Recently, out of 20 schools here that served as the isolation facilities here only two schools remain open to accommodate COVID-19 patients, the Education and Training Center School IV and the Graciano Lopez Jaena Elementary School.
The closure of the quarantine school facilities is concerning the notification of the Department of Education (DepEd) that they will be utilizing the classrooms for election as polling places.
“So, nag request na ang Comelec (Commission on Election) nga e prepare na ang mga eskwelahan wala labot sina ang Deped may proposal na gid nga mag back to school na sila face- to- face,” Ang explained.
She said that once the Evacuation Center in Progreso Village in Barangay Vista Alegre, which was renovated by the city into a quarantine facility, is ready to accommodate COVID-19 patients; the two remaining school-based quarantine facilities will soon be closed.
Meanwhile, COVID-19 cases in this city are becoming fewer because most of the people are now vaccinated, Ang said.
She added that the city will hold the National Vaccination Days (NVD)- Part IV, on March 10 to 12.
But, the National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC) has set the specific target for whom to be qualified for the 3-day vaccination drive.
These are the vaccines that have missed their second dose; remaining senior citizens that have yet been vaccinated; the remaining 12 to 17 years old that are unvaccinated; and booster dose for the health and workers for the economic sectors./PN
