Bacolod to hold ‘grand vax’ drive

BACOLOD City – This city will hold another “grand vaccination drive” against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) this week.

The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and the COVID-19 Vaccination Council (CoVaC) facilitated the first holding of the activity yesterday. The other will be held on Friday, Oct. 1.

A total of 34 vaccination sites across Bacolod will open simultaneously to cater to eligible residents here.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia, chairman of the EOC-TF, placed the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and the Barangay Ambulance Service on “high alert” during the “grand vaccination” day.

The city mayor called on Bacolodnons to avail themselves of free jabs and help educate their families about COVID-19.

Between Sept. 1 and Sept. 24, 112 symptomatic coronavirus patients here died, 99 of which were unvaccinated against the viral disease.

As of Sept. 25, Bacolod listed 445 total COVID deaths since the start of the pandemic.

City Administrator Em Ang, concurrent EOC-TF executive director and CoVaC coordinator, said the intensified vaccination campaign is geared towards achieving herd immunity by December this year.

Among the flexible methods and initiatives adopted by the city government included the VAX-i mobile vaccination drive; onsite vaccination; graveyard/night-shift vaccination for business process outsourcing companies; barangays and clusters vaccination; mall-based vaccination at 888 Chinatown Square, Ayala Malls Capitol Central, CityMall Goldenfield, CityMall Mandalagan, Gaisano City, Robinsons Place, and SM City; two drive-thru vaccination centers at Ayala Malls Capitol Central; and the 24-hour vaccination at Jollibee Gatuslao and Jollibee East./PN
