BACOLOD City – Drivers can soon charge their electric vehicles (e-vehicles) in more charging stations in this city.
Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said he had instructed City Administrator Lucille Gelvolea regarding the need to put up additional charging stations in different parts of the city to address the charging problem of e-vehicles, particularly e-jeepneys.
The city currently has one charging station located at the Bacolod City Government Center.
“The city is now on track to ensure that there will be charging stations all over the city to make it easier for e-vehicle users. Please bear with me because the government… it takes forever to put the program in place because of the check and balance, and the requirements and processes,” the city mayor said.
These charging stations will be in Burgos Public Market and other areas viable for e-jeeps to charge, he added.
Mayor Benitez is actively promoting the use of e-jeepneys as part of the city’s public transport modernization program, aiming to become the first city in the Philippines to fully implement green routes for public transport.
He further believes that with e-jeepneys, operators can save on operating costs./PN
