Bacolod to start water rationing due to low supply

BACOLOD City – The city government urged the public to prepare for a reduction in water supply as the city enters the hot summer months.

Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez also directed the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and the City Engineer’s Office to initiate water distribution to affected barangays.

“This weekend, the CDRRMO will start supplying water to areas experiencing water shortage,” he said.

This comes after the shortage in water delivery from the bulk water suppliers of the Bacolod City Water District (Baciwa)-PrimeWater, compounded by ongoing efforts to address illegal connections, which contribute to non-revenue water losses.

To help mitigate the impact, Mayor Benitez said the Baciwa-PrimeWater is currently implementing multiple projects, including the Bacolod Bulk Water Inc. (BBWI) Injection Point 2 and Matab-ang Treatment Plant, that aim to improve water distribution across the north and south areas of the city.

The mayor said the existing water supply of Baciwa-PrimeWater is 84 million liters a day (MLD) but as of March 11, it lowered to 79 MLD.

“We expect that as the summer months come in, the water table will go down,” he said.

The mayor further urged the public to conserve water, adding that: “The city government assures residents that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure water reaches those in need.”/PN
