BACOLOD City – The demolition of the old site of the Manokan Country in this city is almost done and it would soon be turned over to SM Prime Holdings Inc. (SPHI) for redevelopment.

SPHI leased the 16,875-square meter city government-owned property in barangays 10 and 12 where the original Manokan Country is situated. The private firm has invested P4 billion to redevelop the iconic area.

“The area is almost cleared; only the barangay health center is yet to be demolished. But, partially, the city can start the turnover of the said property to SPHI,” said City Legal Officer Karol Joseph Chiu on Thursday, March 13.

Manokan tenants temporarily relocated to a site at the North Wing of the Parking Hub at SM City Mall, just across from the original location.

Despite the demolition, city officials had earlier reassured the public that the iconic dining spot remains very much alive.

Known for its delicious chicken inasal (grilled chicken), Manokan Country has long been a must-visit destination for both locals and tourists. However, on October 20, 2023, a lease agreement was signed between the city government and SPHI for a 40-year redevelopment project aimed at enhancing the facility and attracting more investors and tourists. The goal is to improve the overall dining experience, safety, hygiene standards, and operational efficiency./PN
