Bacolod vendors’ night market request still pending in SP

BACOLOD City – The request of the Micro Bacolod Vendors Organization (MBVO) to hold a night market is still pending at the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) due to several concerns.

Marife Fernandez, president of the MBVO, has written a letter to the SP seeking approval for the conduct of a night market every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., at the back of the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) and in front of Panasiatic building.

The SP referred the letter to the committee on markets and slaughterhouse chaired by Councilor Celia Flor.

The request, according to Flor, is still pending approval at the SP, explaining that the area at the back of the BCGC is a private property while the area in front of Panasiatic is not allowed for vending.

The city councilor added that the City Mayor’s Office had requested the SP not to allow vendors to do business on the donated lot, particularly in the BCGC’s location, as it is in violation in the provision of the contract with the lot owner.

Meanwhile, the City Legal Office (CLO) will conduct an inspection next week along the Bacolod-Negros Occidental Economic Highway in Barangay Alijis following reports of businesses sprouting in the area that cause road obstruction.

City Legal Officer Romeo Carlos Ting Jr. said they will check if they have business permits, but stressed that the city government will not issue business permits to vendors setting up stalls on the roadside./PN
