BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod here passed a resolution urging all barangays to allocate at least one percent of their annual budget to senior citizens and person with disabilities (PWDs).
Councilor Carlos Jose Lopez, author of the resolution, said the one percent is intended for the implementation of programs, projects, activities, and services that would benefit the said sector.
“There is no prohibition on adjusting upward one-percent budget allocation when warranted by their respective barangay councils,” he added.
Lopez also said senior citizens and PWDs belong to a special sector that needs preferential attention.
“We have noticed that several barangays here don’t give priority to implement the intended shares for senior citizens and PWDs,” he stressed.
The councilor wants to promote the social economic aspect of their lives, value their social importance and recognize their role in nation-building. “This is through the establishments of projects, activities and services that would benefit them such as medical services, dental services, legal assistance, recreation, livelihood, and employment,” Lopez said./PN
