BACOLOD City – Despite rain showers, Bacolodnons successfully held the Christmas lights on ceremony and lights show with the theme “Be A Star This Christmas” at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) grounds on Saturday night, Dec. 2.
This was the first time the BCGC hosted the annual holiday lights spectacle.
It is traditionally held at the city’s public plaza, according to Councilor Jason Villarosa, chairperson of the tourism committee.
Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez led the event together with Congressman Greg Gasataya and city council members.
“The rain did not stop the jolly and bright event as it continued with the lights-on ceremony and the grand lights show,” the city’s Public Information Office said in a statement.
A 55-foot giant Christmas tree has become the main attraction.
Colonel Noel Aliño, city director of the Bacolod City Police Office, said the event was generally peaceful.
The said program also covered numerous activities, such as the Festival of Lights parade by the STI-West Negros University, followed by an arena dance competition and performances from an acoustic band.
The arena dance competition was participated by seven teams of dancers. Orange Erudites defended its title as this year’s champion; the Blue Guardians were the 1st runner-up, and the Yellow Tycoons were the 2nd runner-up.
These served their genuine purpose of bringing hope, delight, and an even brighter and sweeter smile during the yuletide season this year in the city./PN
